Map disappearing

Mapbox is working on v3.1 right now, so I’d like to check if the issue persists in their first beta … If you have a moment to visit this v3.1.0-beta.1 page and testing whether it freezes, that would be a huge help for me.

These are the last stats I have on your device (for my own reference):

  • iPad mini 5th gen
  • iOS/Safari 17.2
  • Chrome 120.0.6099.101

Almost immediate freeze. And the same error message on another tab where I had CS Lifemap open

ok  so
The v3.1.1 release notes include a note:

Fix an issue when WebGL might randomly crash to an unrecoverable state on some mobile devices, specifically Safari on iOS.

maybe that’s the issue you’ve been seeing :crossed_fingers:
Can you visit this v3.1.1 page and let me know if it freezes?

Just did a lit if zooming in and out, and couldn’t reproduce it, so looks good!

Thank you!
I appreciate all the effort you put into helping me figuring this out … well, by “me figuring this out” I mean “me waiting for the Mapbox team to fix a bug” :grimacing:

The next release will include the latest Mapbox version (but none of their design changes - that will stay the same). I’ll leave this as unresolved for a bit, just to make sure things are OK within CityStrides.

Hi James.
Unfortunately this problem has just appeared on my phone. The map with my routes shows up and after 1 or 2 seconds disappeares and there is blank area. And sometimes (not always) after reloading 2 error messages “Your browser cannot display the map. Please ensure WebGL2 is enabled or try a different browser” show up. Problem exists on 3 different browsers I have tried - Chrome, Firefox and Opera. Any ideas?

I think I’m seeing this in some cases as well … I’m guessing it’s a bug in the mapping software … I’m looking into things to see if I can pinpoint exactly what causes it (for example, viewing my individual activities is fine … but I’ve noticed it on one city page out of dozens so far)

Can you let me know if this issue still occurs for you?

Yes, it still occurs. But I have noticed that now in Firefox, one of my cities (Janowiec Wielkopolski) does not always disappear after 1 or 2 seconds, but sometimes the map remains generated and disappears only after trying to zoom in.

Thanks for checking … If you visit województwo kujawsko-pomorskie, Polska - CityStrides does that load properly and allow you to zoom in, etc?

If it does, can you click the Toggle LifeMap button and let me know if that causes problems?

In Chrome it does not load properly. In Firefox the behavior is not deterministic. Sometimes it does not load at all. Sometimes it loads, but not fully - it this case the map is unresponsive. Sometimes it loads properly and I can move, zoom and even toggle/untoggle routes - but eventually, the map always disappears after a few actions.

I have the same dissappearing map issue when using my mobile phone and chrome and firefox. It has been happening since wednesday. It works fine on my laptop still.

Yes still nothing working for me on Chrome signed in or signed out and Firefox tried as well.

I am still having the same disappearing map issue. I just see a white background. Any updates?

Does visiting this link cause the same behavior?

Using that link i can see the map fine.

 Interesting, ok - how about the Nodevember - CityStrides page … does that work as expected?

If it does work as expected, where the page loads & the map displays, and you’re able to zoom/pan the map … Try toggling your LifeMap on and testing whether it continues to work as expected.

It does appear for 3 or 4 seconds but then disappears to leave a blank white screen. Thanks for following up on this.

Is this with your LifeMap toggled on or is it in that page’s default state of not showing your LifeMap?

For the nodevember map i didnt toggle anything in or out.
