Lifemap lines disappeared (2025)

So there’s a lot of topics related to this issue and I tried the various troubleshooting options:

  • restart browser (Chrome)
  • log in/out of CityStrides
  • clear browser cache

but so far nothing is working. What is working is the lifemap on my phone, so this is similar to New route builder bug however I prefer plotting new routes on my laptop so was hoping I could resolve it here. Another weird twist is activities also won’t appear on activity pages (lifemap won’t load on any pages). The blue line flashes briefly and then disappears like its thinner purple brethren :frowning:

You can probably guess the same thing happens for a Route page, but I’ll spare you the extra screenshot.

Not only that, but Node Hunter doesn’t work (no error message, but nodes never appear), and neither does Route Builder (error message when I try to plot first segment following start point, see below)

I would expect a page refresh to sort things out. It looks like there was a JavaScript error somewhere along the lines which has blocked all of those interactive tools from functioning properly.

The thing about JavaScript errors is that once it comes up, it can fully block all future JavaScript from running. Since I’m not a very good JavaScript developer, this seems to happen fairly often.

I tried tracing things back, and it looks like the Route Builder layer failed to be added to the map but I can’t tell why. There was a Mapbox update with some bug fixes, which I just released. Maybe/hopefully that will sort it out.

I’m sure you have more important site business, but I’ve continued to try page refreshes, logging in/out, and clearing cache (again) and all I get is a split-second flash of the Lifemap purple lines before they disappear again and won’t return.

And yet, it has to be some Chrome browser issue because I was able on mobile to load my Lifemap and build a route with Route Builder with no problems. Also works fine on Safari, a browser that I only use as a backup.

There’s definitely some JavaScript error that’s happening.
The browser’s dev console will probably contain a bunch of red output - I request that you do not share that output in this public thread & instead send a private message with that info.

Another thing to try is disabling Chrome extensions & trying again (Incognito mode might automatically do that for you?)

You were completely correct, it was a Reader Mode extension that got updated and was acting weird. I uninstalled it and the Lifemap worked immediately. Thank you!
