City progress incorrect / Completed street count decreasing

I kept checking if this was fixed. Decided to turn on Hard Mode. Saved it and nothing changed. However, when I turned Hard Mode back off, all of my previously 90%+ completed streets reappeared. In short, the 70 or so streets that changed to incomplete this past week were back to showing complete.

Not sure if that helps anyone else, but it worked for me.

Hi Brian, I just did the same thing and all my 90%+ streets went back to completed. Nice catch.

turning hard mode on/saving/turning off/saving in settings set all these back to completed.

Most likely a temporary fix until the next time your city/cities update. James will figure it out soon enough and all will be corrected.

It’s like Hard mode was switched on, which I’ve been contemplating turning on anyway. I wish there was a way to have both modes. Get the gratification at normal completion, and then see these extras so I can clean it up for Hard Mode completion, at least in local towns. 15 streets in this town are not completed, so I’ve got some work to go do.

Hi,

I’m having issues with South San Francisco and Colma. But, more changes to completion of streets could automatically be made days later.

Here’s my profile: Adrian Jue - CityStrides

An example from SSF: South Airport Boulevard - CityStrides
(7 streets are currently incomplete, but more than 90% of the street has been completed.)

An example from Colma: Colma Boulevard - CityStrides
(5 streets are currently incomplete, but more than 90% of the street has been completed.)

I think there are about 30-40 streets that have been automatically changed from complete to incomplete over the past week, but I haven’t been able to diligently locate them.

Thanks again!

Best,

Adrian

Hi James!

Didn’t manage to read through the whole thread, but also having the issue with cities that were previously complete now shown as incomplete as some streets are now incomplete. All those streets are (still) >90% and therefore should be complete.

Hi James,

Not sure if you’re still looking for examples of where this issue is occurring but I had two completed cities that are now incomplete. I also have reduced % complete on other cities which looks to be caused by nodes that I marked as manually complete now showing as incomplete.

Thanks for working on the fix!

Adam

I understand the issue with GPS trace not being 100% accurate etc, but I don’t quite understand why a street would have been marked 100% complete before and is now not marked like that, when the nodes haven’t shifted and my GPS trace is in the same place? Just seems like I’ve got a lot of incomplete streets that were previously complete and I don’t think anything in my city has changed!! Confused more than anything else…

After a bunch of my completed cities updated this morning I am seeing the same. Many streets that were previously 100% complete node-wise are now showing between 92% and 99% complete and the streets are showing as incomplete, even though I do not have hard mode enabled. The streets in question were not recently updated so it makes me think that the system has suddenly started acting like we are all in hard mode and also is using a tighter distance that the GPS track must be from the node than it was using prior.

Thanks for the tip! This fixed all but 6 of my streets. I should compare those against the latest update, because they are ones where I’m now below 90%. One is a bad GPS trace that I think I manually marked as complete before; one is not an actual street (it’s inside Michigan stadium); three others look like they might have new nodes (although one I might have marked as manually complete because of safety concerns). The final one is a short block I recently noticed I’d missed but got credit for, so was already intending to clean up.

Update for @JamesChevalier in case it helps with debugging : I used the tip someone posted below - toggle hard mode on then off - and this fixed all but 6 of my streets. All 6 are below 90% now (but weren’t before the update). At least one of those I’d previously completed manually because of a bad GPS trace. Does hard mode toggle get rid of manual completion flags or is that just coincidence?

The street referred to above:

I might have also completed this manually because the stretch in question is not safe to run (no sidewalks): East Ellsworth Road - CityStrides

I have tried the Hard-Mode-toggle but my Completed Streets total remains much lower today than it was on 14-Jan-2023, and it’s amusing to watch it continue to decrease each day.

The motivation to get out and run new streets to improve CS stats has all but gone for me. It took six months get from 8800 to 9100 streets and now I’m back at 8800 again.

It’s not just the cities that got badly-updated between 18-24 Jan. Wiltshire, England didn’t get an update then but it was updated on 29-Jan and with that update 59 of my ā€œcompletedā€ streets are now ā€œincompleteā€. So the new code seem to remain problematic.

Turning on and off hard mode corrected all my missing streets. Highly suggested for all users

There are lots of streets marked as Incomplete that are complete, but you asked for one, so here you go  Sorry this is a challenge to fix. But glad you’re working on it because I was a little discouraged going from 62% to 58% of San Francisco complete.

Same keeps happening to me. I completed 4000 streets a while ago, and over the past week or so it keeps changing below 4000, although I ran an additional 60-100 streets in the meantime. I can’t say which streets are affected, though, just see the number changing.

This is just the first in a long list of streets that are 90+ done but are now showing incomplete. I am now incomplete in Oakland, Berkeley, and Alameda because of this issue.

Thanks for your help
Angel

Angel, I just had a look at Alameda, three street incomplete, and they do look to me like being below 90% complete?

Hard mode does not allow manual completion of streets, so it is quite possible that whatever streets you marked manually were lost when you ā€œrebootedā€ by turning hard mode on and then off again.
