Split Volos (Greece) into its former municipalities

Hi James,

The current “Volos” city in CityStrides uses the post-Kallikratis municipality boundary, which is extremely large and includes unrelated towns, rural areas, mountain villages, and even dangerous national roads. This makes it impractical and unsafe as a single city for CityStrides.

I would like to request splitting this municipality into its former Kapodistrias (1997 reform) local authorities, which better reflect the real urban structure of the area:

  • Volos
  • Nea Ionia
  • Agria
  • Nea Anchialos
  • Portaria
  • Iolkos
  • Aisonia
  • Artemida
  • Makrinitsa

I woud like to attach a GeoJSON file (kapodistrias_volos_9.geojson) containing the exact polygons for these 9 units, in EPSG:4326 coordinates.
The geometries are derived from the official national GIS dataset of Kapodistrias municipalities published through the Greek cadastre WFS service.

Would it be possible to add each of these as separate non-OSM cities in CityStrides?

Due to the way that data is kept up to date, OpenStreetMap must be the source of truth for every city in CityStrides.

If your dataset matches the licensing requirements that OSM has, then you might be able to work with them on getting your GeoJSON file added as relations. They have a Slack and a Discord presence, along with a few other places listed in the bottom of each of those pages.
