Good morning! I’m brand new to CityStrides and love the concept! One area I run in a lot is a gated community called Savanna, in Weston, FL, USA. I may not be looking in all the right places, but so far I’ve only been able to see nodes clustered at the two entrances to the community, despite there being miles and miles of road inside. Is there some restriction on placing nodes in here? Can I do anything to help on this front? I did a 4-mile run yesterday and it shows zero progress, which is a bummer, hahaha
If it a gated secure estate that is will be marked with a tag limiting acceess in open steet map. This is done as your estate is not accessible to everyone else playing.
Thank you for the information! I figured it might be something like that, although these communities are all open to pedestrians/runners. I’ll poke around Open Street Map further to see how that works.
They are part of the meta data of each road which include things like name, direction, construction and of course access. This may be dictated by signage though eg private no access will result in the tags reflecting this
If the community is accessible to pedestrians and not signed, no trespassing, the OSM map may be updated to change pedestrian access to allowed. However, if access is at all restricted, someone may revert the change. Anyone with an account can edit OSM. If you do update your community’s access, the change will not be reflected in CityStrides until the city is next updated.
On the same wavelength, we are! I went through and made the edits in OSM, let’s see if they stick! How often are cities updated in CityStrides? I saw that Weston was last updated back in July, for example.
Updates have typically been monthly, although James has been updating the sync mechanism and some cities are now several months out of date. As of yesterday evening you can force a sync again. To do so, select the three vertical dots to the right of the city name when on the city page and select sync.
I don’t see the option to force the city sync. Is that feature reserved for paid subscribers? I’ve been trying this out for free until deciding how deeply to commit, haha.
