No city update for almost 3 months

Any idea why Montenegro, Faro - CityStrides
Montenegro in Portugal has not had an update since mid Dec ?

I ran then added a load of missing street names to OSM here in early Jan so keen to see a few more streets on my list.

Thanks
Tim Grose

:person_shrugging: just updates running slow lately, I guess

Supporters can open the vertical three-dot menu and choose “Sync” to immediately send one through.
Each city can be synced once per day, and each Supporter gets 5 sync requests per day.

@JamesChevalier I wasn’t sure if this sync feature is “official” yet, I don’t think it’s been announced as far as I recall, and not mentioned under Supporter features?

I tried it on Montenegro above yesterday and said one was already in progress. Tried it again today and still said was in progress.

Useful info Tim. Montenegro is still not updated and it has only 84 streets. It will be interesting to find out if this is part of a systemic issue: many cities are stuck around the same date of 16 or 17 December, perhaps they are “in progress” too.

I tried it again just now and at least says it is now “doing it” so let’s see if it does. I am hoping it will rise from 84 streets to at least 120 as I added loads of names. Seems to have been a fairlty recent thing to start naming residential streets and putting up signs to tell you what they are!

Ah hurrah it has done it - that was quick. Was slightly hopeful with my streets increase but the city went from 84 to 112 and am still at about 75%. Will try and tick off the remaining 35 on my next visit hopefully later this year.

Great news for Montenegro. I wonder if the need for three tries to manually sync is a clue to the problem with all of the other cities stuck on 16 or 17 December.

If it’s visible, it’s usable … I’m wildly behind in Announcements and the Supporter Features page doesn’t even list Challenges yet  :sob:

Yeah, when it works it works.
There has been a lot of instability in the collection of Overpass services lately - services out of date, producing lots of errors, etc. One of the main issues seems to be resolved now, so that should help with syncs going forward.

One of the recent ‘fixes’ I added was to have the city sync automatically retry if the service was unstable … this added a different issue, where it could happen that two sync attempts were running at the same time - this does not go well.
I’ve had to remove that auto-retry, which means that it’s possible to request a sync, get a “doing it” message, and then the sync not being done.

I’m swamped with some project work right now, but I’m hoping I can return to that issue by the end of the month.

Kind of - it’s probably the same root cause, but the “three tries” was just a coincidence that also involved me releasing some fixes & some Overpass servers getting fixed up.
