I found CityStrides worked great in the many cities in which I ran in the U.S. But I am now in Guinea, West Africa. CityStrides dutifully keeps my lifemap current. However, there are no nodes defined here, at least in the capital, as far as I can tell. So CityStrides is not recognizing street completion progress. And my stats are not updating regarding numbers of cities and countries where I have run. I guess nodes have been defined for only the major countries? Guinea is a pretty out of the way place, but will CityStrides eventually have full functionality in Guinea? Thanks.
That depends how well the data of OSM Open Street Map is. Citystrides depends on OSM. So when there is no data in OSM, the country will stay empty of streets…
The streets display fine. And my lifemap is updating normally. But no nodes will display, and my stats don’t update. So I guess OSM doesn’t have nodes defined for some countries/cities.
Right - there’s currently sparse coverage in Guinea. However, it does look like there are more places available in OSM to bring in as cities.
Guinea is barely mapped at all at the typical “city” admin levels (8 or 10), so I had to use the only available level with good coverage (6). Back when I originally did that, either there was less data to bring in or it missed some places on accident.
I’m going to bring in the missing prefectures, which will help you track your progress … These are quite large, but it’s the best that’s available to us. ![]()
Update: All the new cities have been added, but it’s going to take a while for all the data to be processed
Wow, thanks James. Great service! And thanks for the explanation, though I didn’t understand all of it. I am currently in the capital, trying to knock out as many streets as I can while here. But most of my running will be in the bush, where we normally live. So not in city limits.
