Include path that has ['foot'='designated']

Reviewing the Output of the current overpass-query for my neighborhood, i was wondering why some major running routes were missing. So i guess, the query removes all highways that a re path. But, hear me out: we have many paths that are designated for walking and not connected to major roads. For example, see this Query: overpass turbo . The path from north to south ist the Vennbahnweg (check Wikipedia for this) . Its a perfect running spot: Google Maps

So, how about adding [‘foot’=‘designated’] for [‘highway’=‘path’]? It would cover many running-tracks. The Vennbahnweg for example is one of the most used paths in strava in my area.

I get where you are pointing at. But I just would like to keep CS as it is, since it’s about ‘running every street in a city’. So adding things like vennbahnweg etc. in there is not in the original idea of this site (imho). Everyone is free to run more than the streets that are presented here and can work on their own lifemap, but I wouldn’t want to be forced to run all these paths additional to what I already accomplished.

And yes, this is just my personal oppinion. I just think this potential change would mix up the site content big time.

Tobias I side with you but I don’t think we’ll get this change sadly. We had a big philosophical debate a couple of years ago that ended up removing pedestrian areas from the list of streets, and the discussion touched on foot paths. The tl;dr is that CityStrides will only count ways classified as the various types of streets in OSM.

Thanks for reaching out! I get the point! That’s indeed a valid argument.

Check out Wandrer - that includes many foot paths (but not everything that is highway=footway as that would be insane) but I suspect it would include the types of paths you are referring to.

I like the purity of CityStrides as being streets focused but also use Wandrer as there is a nice gamification element to it
