Heraklion itself (the capital of Crete)

Hello CityStrides team and community,
I’m planning to complete Heraklion (Crete, Greece) using CityStrides, but I’ve run into a limitation with the current administrative boundaries. In the app, Heraklion is defined as Dimos Irakleiou (Municipality of Heraklion), which covers a very large area including many suburban and rural zones far beyond the actual city. My goal is to complete only the city of Heraklion itself (the capital of Crete), meaning the continuous urban area of Iraklio (city proper), not the entire municipality. Is there a way to restrict progress to the city core only, or to select a smaller administrative or custom boundary? If not, would it be possible for the developers/administrators to create a smaller unit for Heraklion city (similar to how some large cities are separated from their wider municipalities or regions in CityStrides)? This would greatly improve accuracy for users who aim to complete cities rather than extensive municipal regions. Thank you for considering this request and for the great work on the app.

Hi :waving_hand: it’s just me here building CityStrides.

My data source for cities/streets/etc is OpenStreetMap. It organizes data based on admin level, and I try to pick what looks like the best level to bring in a country/region all at once. That can result in me choosing the wrong level, or there being another more accurate level with less coverage. It’s tough.

These are the places I had to choose from, smallest to largest:

CityStrides currently has this hierarchy:

So the current source of Heraklion is Relation: ‪Municipality of Heraklion‬ (‪2187393‬) | OpenStreetMap
Here’s what coverage at level 8 looks like:

It does look like the collection of level 8 places within the level 7 Heraklion provide full coverage (easy replacement):

I didn’t check if there are other places on the eastern side of the island that can also be swapped out.
