Export city's street list, node count, distance

When viewing a city, it shows the list of street names including the street’s node count and distance. (Even better, on your user view of the city, the street list is split between incomplete & completed.) At least on my current laptop screen, it shows 12 streets per page. Could there be an export feature to get a simple Excel list of street name, node count, and distance, since the data seems to be there? I thought about trying to copy & paste but it would be a struggle with formatting.

Ideally, you could export from the main city view or from your own incomplete & completed lists.

[This was a posted topic nearly 5 years ago. The original post was exactly what I was looking for, but the chatter devolved into unfortunate, judgmental territory and I didn’t see any developer responses. I thought a fresh post was a better option rather than notifying those chatting in the old thread with a reply - please lmk if that’s wrong (I’m new here!)]

:waving_hand: Yeah, CityStrides is a solo project of mine so I don’t always have the ability to chime in on threads.

I think you were referring to Export Street List for a City? as the other thread for this idea. No problem starting a new thread, but I do refer to vote counts when planning upcoming efforts. At some point I may merge the two.

This is feeling a little like The XY Problem in that you’re asking for the feature but I’m unsure what you’re trying to accomplish.

Pulling problems from the other thread:

  • find nearly completed streets
  • find streets with just a few nodes
  • find shortest streets
  • compare incomplete streets with a friend for collaborative effort
    • this has since been addressed via Collaborative Challenges, but I haven’t created a Supporter Feature page for Challenges yet

From this list of problems (yours may be different), I see a solution in improved sorting/filtering. If we could sort the street lists by percentage complete, node count, and total distance, that would address each item in the list.

Thank you for the reply, James!! This sure does sound like the XY problem, and I learned about a new concept!!

My thoughts on how I would use a data export center around sorting and filtering. If that capability was added within the site, that would be 100x better than an export since I love how we can show/hide the nodes on the map directly from the street list.

I was thinking I could use an export to sort & filter the node counts and distances to look for both “easy wins” (this group of streets are all short; I could make a trip to that neighborhood and knock off a bunch of streets) and “project streets” (this street has 300+ nodes so I should start planning routes that chip away at it). I blame being an accountant for why an Excel spreadsheet came to mind first as the best solution!
