I’m working at trying not to be anal about it, but City Strides stokes my ADHD when it comes to running. I use Strava on my mobile phone to record activities. I have achieved 100% on City Strides in my home community. Nobody cares, really, as both my wife and a running buddy also have 100%.
Folks say I have a problem. I don’t disagree; however, I need a challenge if I am to put on my runnin’ shoes. I’ve run all of the pavement in our region. I’ve run all of the back lanes/alleys. I’ve moved on to old rail lines, logging roads, and trails identified on Strava. I figure bunny trails are fair game. The wife is worried some hillbilly is going to shoot me as, clad in a Hawaii shirt and bloodied from blackberry thorns, I come runnin’ through his property at dusk. Does anyone else call it ‘white line fever’?
The real reason for this note is to inquire about best practises regarding straight lines… the kind one gets if one forgets to tell Strava one’s done runnin’. These straight lines can make a beautiful City Strides map look like a dog’s breakfast.
I’ve been saving the offending activity in Strava, then cropping it to remove the drive home. As I understand it, City Strides receives and uses the original Strava activity, not the cropped one. Is that true?
Another understanding is that to consider an edited Strava activity, a ‘resync’ is needed by City Strides. As a benefit, Supporters get a daily resync automatically. The rabble (regular Subscriber member) has to request one in this forum. Is that true? If so, please sync me up.
Many thanks for the clarification regarding straight lines… and any insights into my affliction

PS It might drive more folks to become Supporters if you were to add a comparative benefits table to: Sign In - CityStrides

Basically, yes.
CityStrides gets the alert from Strava when the activity is initially saved. That’s likely the one that has the bad GPS data.
When you update the activity in Strava, I get another alert but that only includes title/type/privacy. So, I can’t adjust anything in CityStrides based on that alert.
That’s right. Supporters get a “Resync” button on each activity page, and that feature can be used 5 times per day.
Another approach would be to delete the activity in CityStrides and then either choose Sync Now in the top right menu or do a single activity sync in the Activity Trackers section of the Settings page.
I put a full list of all the features in the section below the Recurring/Prepay presentation. I also have the Supporter Features page that highlights each feature. I also have the features listed out in the Pricing page.
I’m unsure what else I can present.
Hey James,
On the topic of removing straight lines, as a regular member of CityStrides, I tried the solutions you recommended and got nowhere.
While I have 100% of the streets in my home community, I signed up as a Supporter just to get rid of the aggravating lines.
I can confirm that Strava is accurate and lines have been cropped-out.
When I click on the offending route in CityStrides, the route for the particular day is displayed. Options are: Resynch, Edit or Delete.
City Strides responds with:
“
There are too many processing jobs running, please try again later”
I’ve tried several times. Each attempt gives the same error message.
Pls clarify.
You’re doing it right, but there’s a big backlog of jobs - visible in the Status page - which is blocking some actions.
It’s been several days and an upgrade to Subscriber but I still get the error message. Chance there’s a bug?
Nope
the processing that occurs after a city sync and the processing that occurs after an activity deletion share the same queue, because they’re effectively the same & the work they do cause a strain on the database.
You can click my name, then the Message button that appears in that popup … copy/paste links to the activities you’re trying to resync & I’ll resync them manually.
Sorry for the hassle - I’ll take another look into how I might be able to squeeze in activity resync/deletion without causing more database pain.
