I would like to add an IRL friend as a friend on City Striders but we both have our accounts set to private. Is there currently no way to do this without one of us changing our privacy settings?
You donāt have to change your privacy settings. Hereās how:
- Person A shares their profile link with Person B
- Person B visits that page, opens the three-dot vertical menu and chooses āFriendā
- Person A visits their friend request page (https://citystrides.com/friendships which is linked from the top right menu) and accepts the friendship
Couldnāt Person A never get to Person Bās profile page in the first place since itās private?
You can visit any/every user profile page. The private accounts just arenāt going to show you that much information.
So how do we use this Friends feature to actually get in touch with people that we have friended? I have a handful of people out here in LA that I want to connect with so that we can team up on some potentially sketchy areas to avoid doing them alone. I donāt think we have a messaging feature, so whatās the best way to connect with them?
True, there isnāt any in-site messaging (yet?). Right now, this forum is the ābestā place to get in touch with others. Itās not a great solution, since it requires others to be present here as well.
A while ago, I added Planned Runs (request a run) to the Ideas category. It didnāt get any traction at all. ![]()
Iāve also thought about embedding the forum into the site, but havenāt had time to write anything up for that.
Dean, you and I are āfriendsā here, but, for the very reason that you mentioned, we havenāt been able to communicate yet. Send me a text message to 310-528-1241. I have a WhatsApp group of CityStriders in the Los Angeles area, and itād be great if you could join us!
Scott - when I saw your message come through I thought it would be more of a āwarning shotā now that Iāve taken the lead in LA
!
Texting you - and thank you - canāt wait to get wrapped into the group.
Haha! Nah, I had noticed that too about Los Angeles, but Iām happy to have the friendly competition.
By tomorrow afternoon, I will complete not only the city of Thousand Oaks, but the entire Conejo Valley. ![]()
You will probably keep the lead in L.A. for a while because, rather than going back to finishing the East San Fernando Valley (which Iād started before), I plan to work next on finishing Malibu, Unincorporated Santa Monica Mountains, and Topanga.
Love it. But I think your window will be this summer as I am spending several weeks in the Slovenian Alps, hut to hut hiking, and then 6 weeks on holiday in Italy. So a solid 8 weeks of kicking my *ss while I am gone. Early congrats on your completion(s) tomorrow, Scott!
