Resolving common issues with location access for LifeMap Live

Sometimes, in iOS, tapping the location button does not display yourself on the map. Instead, the icon just spins like it’s waiting for something. This seems to be more likely to happen around iOS updates, but that’s unconfirmed. Below are some potential fixes…

From the Chrome browser in iOS:

  • Settings → Chrome → Location → Choose ”Ask next time”
  • Completely exit out of Chrome - close the app, and also swipe it up to completely exit
  • Open Chrome again
  • Try LifeMap Live again and you should be prompted twice for location/direction access & things should work as expected

For Safari (WIP here, I haven’t had 100% success with this):

  • Completely exit out of Safari - close the app, and also swipe it up to completely exit
  • Verify your privacy settings aren’t interfering
    • Settings → Privacy → Location Services → Safari Websites
    • Ensure you don’t have “never” selected
    • Ensure you have “Precise Location” enabled
  • Clear the existing site data
    • Settings → Safari → Advanced (all the way at the bottom) → Website Data
    • Search “citystrides”
    • Swipe the entry for citystrides.com and tap Delete
  • Try LifeMap Live again and you should be prompted twice for location/direction access & things should work as expected
