OSM Revision for a City/Country advise? Cordes Lakes Arizona/Iran/Turkmenistan

Hi all,

I’ve made minor modifications to the cities and streets where I’ve run, so I’m quite comfortable updating dead ends, realigning roads, and changing public/private access roads, etc.

However, I have two questions:

  1. While I’m confident with updating roads, I’m less sure about updating town/city boundaries. Currently, I’m making my way around Cordes Lakes, Arizona, a community that, unfortunately, isn’t part of CS (yet). I’ve tried to understand the hierarchy and the updates needed to incorporate this ‘village’ into OSM/CS, but I’d appreciate help from someone more knowledgeable or someone who can handle this for the community.
  2. The same issue applies on a larger scale (a country or two). Last year, I traveled to several cities in Iran and did CityStriding as much as possible, but unfortunately, the entire country isn’t part of CS. Is this due to Western sanctions excluding the country from OSM? Why isn’t Iran included in CS? Next year, I’ll be traveling to Turkmenistan, which is also not integrated into CS. How can I help set up these two countries in OSM so they can be incorporated into CS? Can someone assist with this?

Thank you so much for your help!

Anybody? @JamesChevalier

I only have very basic OpenStreetMap editing skills. I haven’t reached the point of comfortably updating town/city boundaries.

I keep Missing/Broken Cities Tracker - Google Sheets to track cities that need to be added, but there’s also a tab where I’m working through countries that I haven’t gotten to yet.
It looks like I just haven’t gotten to Iran or Turkmenistan yet. I’ll need to figure out what level their corresponding regions are (e.g. in the US it’s “state” at level 4), and then which level(s) map out their corresponding cities in the cleanest way.
