Is there a way to modify the challenges to pick multiple cities? Like for example, if you wanted to pick all of the cities that make up Suffolk County in Massachusetts you could make a challenge ‘Suffolk County Completion’.
Just wanted to bump this to see if anyone likes this idea. Right now I have multiple spreadsheets going that I have to update each time cities update. It would be great to track all of this within CityStrides.
Ooh, no, not yet - I’ve been fully focused on that collaborative challenge / crew setup … thanks for bringing this up again!
What do your spreadsheets contain?
I’m wondering how the list of cities on your profile page falls short.
As I’m building this out, I’m seeing the simplest path is keeping the UI exactly the same & pulling all the streets from each of the cities into the incomplete/complete tab.
Knowing what you’re tracking & how you’d expect that to be displayed will help me figure out if the simple path is suitable or if I need to rework the page in some ways.
Update: Here’s a work-in-progress view of this simple approach… Each of the city borders would appear on the map & the incomplete/complete street lists would be an alphabetical list of streets in all selected cities (in the screenshot, only the third street in the list is in another city).
Out of view (because I haven’t built it yet ) would be a progress bar display of your overall progress (in this example, it would be 14% since I’m 122/839)
This is exactly what I’m looking for! Right now I add the street counts and miles for each into the spreadsheet.
It sounds like the main thing that the city list on the profile page doesn’t deliver is the overall progress across the collection of cities.
So in my case, I’d have to manually figure out that I’m (244+253)/(337+502) = 59%
done with both Holyoke & Easthampton.
Are any of the cities in your challenge places that you’ve never run?
I’m trying to decide if I can let you select from a list of your existing cities (the way that the Challenge form currently works) or if I need to let you select from any city in the world
The progress across the group would be nice to have. I think it would be cool to pick cities we haven’t run in to track the progress that could include stuff we may not have run yet.
I would love this feature. To add to this: it would be fun to be able to name the specific region. Because for me, I would love this feature as my goal at the moment is running a specific region. It would also be very nice to track provinces, states,…
The percentage bar should probably not be in the cities tab in my opinion. I guess in the pinned cities list makes mote sense?
Yeah, this will retain the existing capability of being able to name your Challenge.
These will be displayed on profile pages in the same way Challenges are currently displayed, just above the list of badges. Here’s an example:
This can escalate quickly…
Maybe I’ll eventually figure it out, but I’m not going to be able to include per-city progress on its initial release.
I also haven’t figured out a usable city-selection UI yet.
@JamesChevalier I’ve noticed a glitch when you already have a challenge in progress. If new streets get added to a city from the update process, they don’t update on the challenge and the city stays with the street count when you initiated the challenge.
I am trying to do all of Leicestershire, but I am not sure how practical it would be to make English (or British) counties into challenges, since on OSM, they use different levels for different levels of government. Attached is the spreadsheet that I keep.
Yeah, less a glitch and more a “I haven’t built that yet”
All my focus on multi-city challenges and collaborative challenges will help push me to get that done soon
Yeah, England is a mess in CityStrides right now - Replace England's admin level 6 (and 8 in some cases) with admin level 10 - and there doesn’t seem to be a simple “make everyone happy” fix to it
To be honest, Leicestershire works perfectly. Eight subdivisions, and each is achievable, with varying amounts of effort needed to complete each. Warwickshire appears to be a different story, as my brother and I are attempting to do the whole Grand Union canal, and as we go through Warwickshire, CS keeps telling me that I have done, say, 25% of a new city, and I find that the city in question is a small village.
