Hi! I’m hoping to make my life map public without the details of individual activities being visible to everybody. I see Life Maps where that’s not the case
(here and here, for example). The Life Map lines are visible, but hovering over a line doesn’t highlight the exact route and show the date it was done. That’s what I’m hoping mine can do.
But even when I view my Life Map in an incognito window, these details are visible. Is there a setting I’m missing to prevent that?
Please explain this again. I’m a supporter but can’t find this feature in the settings. I also want to keep my LifeMap public but without the option to hover over tracks to get detailed information about a specific activity and without the public list of activities. I read “All About Privacy” section in the Wiki and the list of Advanced Supporter Feature but still can’t find it.
I have a public profile in CityStrides with a privacy setting set to “Per activity” and in Garmin and Strava the activites privacy is set to “Only me”. As a result I have some activites set to Share Activity With to “Only Me” and they don’t show up on the LifeMap at all and then some older activites set Share Activity With to “Everyone” and those show up on the LifeMap but with a option to see all the details about the activity itself.
The ability to disable hover details does not yet exist.
I think I may have added confusion when I called out what the hover feature was called (LifeMap Advanced). I attempted to indicate that toggling the feature was not yet possible by saying:
I’ll need to build out a feature to make it possible to toggle that.
Apologies for the confusion.
At this time it is not possible to toggle the hover details.
Just to be sure - those activities are showing up for you right? While you’re logged in, looking at your own LifeMap, everything should be shown to you.
Thank you very much for the answer!
You are right, when logged in I can see all the activities on my LifeMap, including the private ones. But in browser Incognito mode the private ones are missing from the LifeMap. That works logically.
But I see a user in my area who has already done exactly what I want to do. I see their Profile with general statistics about total number of streets and regions and I also see their LifeMap but I can’t click on any of their individual tracks on the LifeMap. And I even see that they have 1201 activities but instead of the list of the activites it only says “(User) has not run at all, or is not sharing their activities”. As they have this semi-public profile I hope it’s OK to share the link here, it’s this one.
I want to do a exact same thing for my own profile.
Which activity tracker does that runner use? I believe that what you want is only available to Strava users since the Strava platform no longer allows sharing info/routes. I can not be certain that is the case since I do not know which strider you are referring to.
Not sure how much time and effort it would take to create this for all activity trackers. It would be a nice option to have.
To clarify a bit: if you use Strava your runs will never be visible in CS, regardless of your settings. That is since Strava made changes a couple of months ago. I want my runs to be visible to all, and they were, so I was surprised when a friend asked why I hid my runs.
So when I found out about this, I changed to use Garmin to connect to CS. Now my runs are visible again to all
Thank you very much! That explains everything I think. Probably the tracks on their LifeMap are only the old ones then, those that were uploaded before Strava made the change and new runs are not added to their LifeMap. That’s not what I want either. I want the LifeMap be up to date just without the possibility to click on individual tracks and without detailed information about activities. But that’s not possible. At least not yet.
Thank you all for taking time for this topic!
