Incident 2026-03-29 Activity progress not calculating

This is likely caused by the issue I detailed here. I’ll move this into that thread.

Nodes are not being marked as complete on all streets for one run. Never encountered this before. Lifemap clearly shows GPS track going right through all the nodes but they remain red. Thus 0 streets progressed/completed. Advice? Thanks!

It’s a known problem that James is working on.
100% completed street not showing as Complete - Support - The CityStrides Community

Thanks for all you do, James. It seems crazy that you’re running into credit / processing / server response time issues. This isn’t to say you don’t know what you’re doing, by any means, but rather there’s got to be better support or partners out there so that you don’t have to navigate that in addition to all of the other work you do. I suspect it’s all about cost.

I’m bringing this up because we have over 80,000 members, and many of them are quite savvy in the tech space, it seems. I wonder if there is a partner out there that could underwrite/support/contribute to the project in the form of the backend. I don’t know enough about this to understand if that’s easy or not, but I do know a lot about partnerships. With what you’re doing, it would seem there’s someone out there that could help.

If this in any way aligns with your challenges, I’d support putting out a thread and seeing if there are any interested parties. A world where we have no delays on CS would be a wonderful one. One of my greatest joys in the past several years is completing a route and immediately seeing that I progressed the leaderboard or accomplished even more streets than I had planned.

I’ve gone through a number of scaling bumps over the years … there are shifts in how things have to be done at certain levels - hundreds of people, thousands, tens of thousands, and I’m seeing another shift as we grow towards hundreds of thousands.
This issue was a matter of Amazon RDS inner technical workings. Some query went bonkers somehow, reading tons of data from disk. There’s a disk I/O ceiling that was reached, which caused all interactions with the database to be slow/throttled. This is inherent in any database instance in their system (while more money gets you a higher ceiling, there’s still a ceiling) so I’m more inclined to look towards my code as the underlying cause.

Supporters! (Reading along and not one yet? Become A Supporter)

I’m not sure where I’d look for corporate sponsorship, and what they’d want in return. If you have more concrete ideas on how it would look, you can DM me here. I wouldn’t want to start a thread, yet, without having a better idea of the underlying process.

Out of curiousity, is cost or your time the more significant constraint?

On my home page, there is a box that tells me my ranking in the March challenge (out of a total number). Is that denominator the current number of supporters?

Navigating to the global leader board gives a number for total users.

Taking these two together, I infer that the number of registered users who are current supporters is somewhat less than 5%. Is that a correct inference? I realise that there will be a lot of users who tried CS out and didn’t stick around, so the actual number for whom you’re processing data is likely less than 86k. Do you have anything that tells you how many active users there are?

If cost is the more important constraint, how many non-supporters would need to become supporters to make a difference? Of course, there is a little more functionality provided to supporters that might place a marginal impost on resources but I have no feel for how marginal this is.

I Completed a 10km Walk this morning and whilst it has popped up on my recent activities, 0 nodes have been recorded/completed.

I’ve never had a problem like this before. I’ve had a look at other forums here but I can’t see anything quite like this.

Any help would be unbelievably helpful!!

The same here

Yeah, there are big delays right now :frowning: … the Status page has stats on that.

Same here, 8.7 mile run shows in my City for miles but no nodes. Sounds like a slowness issue (as long as it’s not just me, I’ll be content with being patient)

Hello!
For the first time yesterday I did an activity (Diogo Santos's activity on March 29, 2026 - CityStrides) that none of the streets counted as completed. The activity took longer to show up on life map, but eventually it appeared, but with no street count.
Should i reupload from Garmin? It does not allow me to delete this one to do it again.

Thanks for the help, I’m almost finishing all the streets in the city!

I’ve recorded a few walks and runs over the last couple of days on busy streets with uncompleted nodes, but none of them are registering any completions or progress on CityStrides. Am I doing something wrong?

same here, since saturday several runs in new city do not count for any segments

It was working properly until friday

I am having the same issue, 0 complete 0 progressed on my run yesterday

I’m having this same issue. Some activities I logged on Saturday have now appeared on the LiveMap but I’m still at 0/0 for progressed and completed streets.

Happy to provide whatever information you need to put that in context. Thank you for all that you do to keep this project going, engineering team. <3

If you look about three threads down, you will see one on exactly the same topic (and with almost the exact same title). James has explained in that thread that there are processing backlogs.

Don’t forget to check the status page when you notice issues: Sign In - CityStrides .

Looks like in the case of free users, there is currently a 1 day delay on processing.

Activities from 29-30 March are showing no progress for any nodes or streets.

Still suffering

My most recent run shows on the map, but the progressed/completed streets haven’t been updated for North Andover.
