This felt like it could stand on its own, so I moved it into a new post.
I think the OSM point of view is that the nodes should align with what’s really out there in the world. I’m going to pass along the question to the Slack group ( OpenStreetMap Chat ) when I get a chance - I think they’ll be able to better articulate the correct response.
