Honest complete % competition

@RichardRichard, I understand the idea and why you’d want to see this, however my personal view here is that I would prefer not to see the two metrics.

My rationale:

  1. It would clutter up leaderboards and other displays with a metric that would almost always be redundant. I would expect most people’s city completion percentage to vary by less than 1% in either case, with the majority actually being the exact same.
  2. I view the “Manually Mark as complete tool” as a patch until the next OSM import is completed and updated changes are brought in. Hopefully in most instances when nodes are inaccessible, Striders are choosing to reflect this with improvements and changes in the OSM data.
  3. I am not particularly competitive and don’t mind what other people do and how they choose to use the site. I know how I use it, and am happy with avoiding the “mark as manually complete” feature altogether.

Of course this allows for liberal completion of streets, with the most extreme scenario being simply marking everything as complete manually without actually having done any, and claiming 100% of a city. While I understand why that would be annoying to see someone on a leaderboard that has done that, I’m fine with that personally.

I think ultimately the question isn’t about having two completion metrics to show total with and without manually completed streets, but more just whether or not manually completed streets should be an available feature at all. That discussion is here: Remove Manually Completed Feature.
