Add "Territory" to leaderboard drop-down

Saw the new Territory feature. Pretty fun!

Made me wonder what are the largest territories ever run on CityStrides?

It’s already an option on the top right drop down menu:

Territories - CityStrides

And there you can choose Mine (yours:rofl:) or Global. I didn’t see that choice at first!

Awesome, where did you find that? I can’t find it. Screenshot?

Ok I think I’m not understanding “Territories” because it seems like it’s aggregating multiple runs? I assumed it was in a single run? e.g. Territory of Tim Van - CityStrides this doesn’t look like one run. My largest territory is a single run, but it’s tiny compared to these.

Edit: yeah, just saw this: “Territories are areas covered by overlapping activities”. Ok, well that’s interesting but slightly less interesting as a leaderboard. But does give me something else to work towards!

From Jim: a Territory is the area covered by a group of overlapping activities

That is, all runs that are connected, overlap each other, make a territory

In this example you can see my big Stockholm territory. Then on the right side a small one outside at Ă…kersberga. Totally not connected. But then inside the Stockholm territory you also see three small ones that are stand-alone, they are not overlapping any other runs, so they form separate territories, two are on ilands, one is just separate in Boo

What I’m doing now is connecting as many territories as possible. In my picture, run west from Åkersberga to connect it with road 274. And from Boo, also run west from that territory to connect to other roads in Nacka

That’s awesome. Yeah, I am inspired now, you’ve convinced me, this is really cool. Great map btw, looks fantastic. Low how continuous it is.

I think it all got figured out in the conversation, but just in case / to bring it all together…

  • Territories is present in the top right menu
  • It defaults to showing you your own Territories
  • There’s a second tab (Global) which shows the Territories for public Supporters
  • The default sorting is largest first, but it can be changed to activity count and total distance
  • Each Territory is built up by activities that touch/overlap, with no leeway (like with Node Hunter where you can be within 25 meters of a Node for it to count - none of that here)

Pretty awesome stuff James, you nailed it. My only suggestion now might be that the “Mine” tab isn’t as cool as the Global tab. I would suggest make Global tab default, but show my largest territory at the top. i.e. something like “here’s where you are in the standings”.

Edit: How funny is it that my largest territory is a SINGLE run, despite having nearly completed 4 large cities. Moab 240. Ouch.
