When searching for places to run, it can be difficult to track down census-designated areas (“Cities” in CS parlance) using just the US states. Can we add a map and search page in between the cities and the states (Primary admin boundary)?
Part of the reason for my request comes from me living in a semi-rural area. Most of the “cities” that I can easily run are not a formal city or town, but a “Census designated area”. It’s basically the Census bureau categorizing groupings of people that may or may not have a city or town charter.
For example, I’m currently running Prices Fork, VA, which is here:
I can search the entire state here:
But, it would be nice to have a map of Montgomery County, VA (the local county) showing the “cities” in that county that are available to be run. Since counties are a US concept, you could fall back to just calling it a secondary administrative boundary to cover other countries. The URL should be easy to put together by Primary boundary (“state”). For example, it could be accessed with something like “citystrides.com/regions/829/secondary/{primary_key}”
Since all the data is already in open GIS datasets for the world, this shouldn’t be a hard feature to add. It would add invaluable insight into boundary overlap and what is available in a specific county.
Thanks!
