I would like to add an IRL friend as a friend on City Striders but we both have our accounts set to private. Is there currently no way to do this without one of us changing our privacy settings? ---

You don’t have to change your privacy settings. Here’s how: - Person A shares their profile link with Person B - Person B visits that page, opens the three-dot vertical menu and chooses “Friend” - Person A visits their friend request page ([https://citystrides.com/friendships](https://citystrides.com/friendships) which is linked from the top right menu) and accepts the friendship ---

You can visit any/every user profile page. The private accounts just aren’t going to show you that much information. ---

So how do we use this Friends feature to actually get in touch with people that we have friended? I have a handful of people out here in LA that I want to connect with so that we can team up on some potentially sketchy areas to avoid doing them alone. I don’t think we have a messaging feature, so what’s the best way to connect with them? ---

True, there isn’t any in-site messaging (yet?). Right now, this forum is the ‘best’ place to get in touch with others. It’s not a great solution, since it requires others to be present here as well. A while ago, I added [Planned Runs (request a run)](https://community.citystrides.com/t/planned-runs-request-a-run/26866) to the #Ideas category. It didn’t get any traction at all. 🙁 I’ve also thought about [embedding the forum into the site](https://meta.discourse.org/t/embed-discourse-as-a-full-comment-system-on-your-site/399743), but haven’t had time to write anything up for that. ---

Haha! Nah, I had noticed that too about Los Angeles, but I’m happy to have the friendly competition. By tomorrow afternoon, I will complete not only the city of Thousand Oaks, but the entire Conejo Valley. 😎 You will probably _keep_ the lead in L.A. for a while because, rather than going back to finishing the East San Fernando Valley (which I’d started before), I plan to work next on finishing Malibu, Unincorporated Santa Monica Mountains, and Topanga. ---

Love it. But I think your window will be this summer as I am spending several weeks in the Slovenian Alps, hut to hut hiking, and then 6 weeks on holiday in Italy. So a solid 8 weeks of kicking my \*ss while I am gone. Early congrats on your completion(s) tomorrow, Scott!
