Cities like Seattle, WA can be very hilly. When route building / node hunting it would be handy to have a picture of the topography. Being able to toggle on light-colored contour lines would help without adding too much visual clutter. 3D terrain and hillshades might work but simpler might be better here. It looks like mapbox has a lot of options for topo info but I didn’t dig too deeply.
It looks like Mapbox Terrain v2 is the tileset that provides this view. If I added this, it would behave like toggling to Satellite view - it wouldn’t be an overlay on the existing view.
This would also require changing the current button that toggles Street/Satellite view (top right, under the plus/minus zoom buttons) into a menu selection. I don’t think clicking one button to toggle through three different map views would be a nice experience.
Hmmm, yeah, ideally you’d want an overlay that could be toggled on/off, but I get it if that’s not how things are implemented.
Personally, I very rarely use the satellite view. I might swap it in briefly to see what’s there, for instance, if I’m looking for parking to start a run. Mostly, I stick with the less visually cluttered, and it feels faster, street view. Similarly, I could see swapping in the Terrain tileset briefly to see if I’m adding unnecessary elevation changes. Or, if it’s a ‘hills’ day, add desired vertical changes
While I know this is CityStrides the Outdoorstyle looks like it would be nice for less urban environments. Obviously, that’s a style, not a tileset. In my five minutes of clicking around the API docs I don’t have much understanding of the implications of that.
